Subject: Two postdoc positions and two Ph.D. positions
       To: MOLECULAR-DYNAMICS-NEWS en JISCMAIL.AC.UK

Two postdoc positions and two Ph.D. positions are available in Prof. Efrat
Lifshitz’s group in the Schulich Faculty of Chemistry/the Russell Berrie
Nanotechnology Institute/the Solid State Institute at the Technion–Israel
Institute of Technology, Haifa, Israel.

The Lifshitz group focuses research efforts on the synthesis and
characterization (structural, optical, magneto-optical and electrical) of
semiconductor and metal quantum structures as well as their practical
applications in opto-electronics and biological platforms.

The candidate for postdoc position # 1 is expected to do research in the
following areas:
• Single structure (e.g., quantum dot, molecule) spectroscopy (confocal,
NSOM, AFM, STM, STS), or combined methodologies (e.g., AFM/confocal)
• Magneto-optics of assembled structures or a single nano-structure
• Modulated and time-resolved optical spectroscopy of quantum structures
• Theoretical modeling

The candidate should have a Ph.D. in experimental physics or chemical physics
or material science with spectroscopic experimental skills and general
knowledge in quantum mechanics, optics and solid state theories.

The candidate for postdoc position # 2 is expected to do research in the
following areas:
• Design and synthesis of new semiconductor and metallic nano-structures
• Structural characterization
• Device applications (e.g., photovoltaic cells, LED, gain devices, biological
platforms, photonic structures)

The candidate should have a Ph.D. in one of the following: chemical physics,
synthetic chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering or a
related area,
with experimental skills in synthesis and microscopy and/or nano-materials
applications, and general knowledge of solid state and quantum mechanics.

The candidates for Ph.D. positions are expected to do research in one or more
of the following areas:
• Development of new synthesis procedures of nano-structures
• Structural characterization
• Single dot spectroscopy (or combined spectroscopy and microscopy)
• Magneto-optical spectroscopy
• Opto-electronic applications of nano-structures

The candidate should have a M.Sc. or a B.Sc. in one of the following fields:
physics, chemistry, materials engineering, chemical engineering or a related
degree.

The positions will be supported by two different EC projects, starting from
Feb/March 2010; each can be extended up to 4 years.

Candidates are encouraged to send their application by email to:
ssefrat en technion.ac.il or to the following address:
Prof. Efrat Lifshitz
Solid State Institute, Rm 132
Technion–Israel Institute of Technology
Haifa 32000, Israel
