Seminario 1. Dra. Ligia Toro, PhD. Professor and Dorothy and Leonard
Straus Scholar Division of Molecular Medicine, Department of
Anesthesiology, and Department of Molecular & Medical Pharmacology
Univeristy of California, Los Angeles, USA <br><br>
Titulo: “Mitochondrial BKCa Channels”<br><br>
Resumen: "The opening of mitochondrial BKCa channels (mitoBK) is
known to protect the heart from ischemic insult. In the seminar, we will
discuss recent advances in mitoBK molecular composition and import to
mitochondria, and its regulatory role in mitochondrial Ca2+ retention
capacity. "<br><br>

Resolution Imaging Center, Associate Director, Cardiovascular Research
Laboratories David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.<br><br>
Title: "Recent advances in super-resolution microscopy"
Summary: Resolution beyond the diffraction limit of ~50 nm can be
achieved with Stimulation Emission Depletion Microscopy (STED) that is
based in bringing to the ground state photons in the periphery of the
focal spot. One major limitation of STED is photobleaching . In the
seminar the following points will be discussed: 1. A novel system with
minimal photobleaching with two super-resolution channels based on a fast
resonant scanning mirror and an ultra-fast photon counting system, 2.
Mechanisms of photobleaching, 3. Recent discoveries of non-linear optical
properties of metal nano-particles that can lead to a new
super-resolution microscopy and 4. Development of a machine learning
approach for image analysis. <br><br>
