<p><span style="color:blue" lang="EN-US"> </span><span lang="EN-US">I spent 30 years (1963-1993) working
as an operations research practitioner in several industrial concerns, and I
never met there an OR colleague because they are doing basic research in the
Academy and submitting papers to peer-reviewed journals. <span style="color:blue"> </span></span></p>
<p><span lang="EN-US">Then it occurred in 1995 that I
landed up in the Academy myself where I found that my colleagues were teaching
Operations Research as it stood in 1950. Hence I asked the mathematics dept
chairman to allow me to update the OR course content. And so it was, I updated
the course content, and Doktor Hugo Scolnik, <b><span style="font-weight:normal">Vice</span></b><b>-</b><b><span style="font-weight:normal">President</span></b><b> of </b><b><span style="font-weight:normal">IFORS,</span></b> and his wife Doktorin
Irene Loiseau - who were teaching the old stuff - returned to the computer science
dept where they belonged.</span></p>
<p><span lang="EN-US">Lo and behold! some years later Mrs
Loiseau was lecturing my OR course in the computer science dept under a new
name: Algorithms III. The time was now ripe to supplant the old fool. Indeed
Doktor Scolnik pointed out to the Dean of the school that it did not make sense
to have the same subject taught in the math and the computer departments. Consequently
I was vanished from the school. </span></p>
<p><span lang="EN-US">In the next letters I will described
what I discovered in the Academy as an operations researcher before being
dismissed. (To be continued). </span></p>
