Vera

**********************************************************

Dear
Colleagues,

With this email we would like to announce and invite you to
participate in an exploratory workshop on methods for Data Assimilation and for
the Detection and Attribution of Climate Change, to be held in Buenos Aires,
Argentina, October 15-18 2012. The workshop will be hosted by the
French-Argentinean Institute for Climate Studies (IFAECI), a joint
CNRS-CONICET-UBA international research unit.

The purpose of this
workshop is to promote the communication and to explore the potential for
methodological cross-fertilization between the fields of Data Assimilation (DA)
and Detection and Attribution (D&A). The underlying motivation is that both
fields can be approached as large-scale inverse problems in geoscience, hence
methodological synergies may exist. To make their search more effective, the
workshop will bring together experts from both communities for several days of
mutual D&A-DA knowledge-sharing and thought-sharing sessions.

The
workshop will comprise invited talks and contributed talks and posters. At this
stage confirmed speakers include: Marc Bocquet (France), Alberto Carrasi
(Spain), Michael Ghil (France/USA), Philippe Naveau (France), Manuel Pulido
(Argentina), Claudia Tebaldi (USA) and Francis Zwiers (Canada).

We invite
contributed presentations, either oral or poster, on topics within the ambit of
the meeting.

The number of participant is limited. There are no
registration fees, but a deadline: September 15th, 2012. Modest funding for
travel and accomodation is available.

More information as well as a an
online registration form can be found on the website of the workshop (active
