ABOUT GIAMBIAGI SCHOOLS:
The Giambiagi Winter Schools are organized by the Physics department
of the School of Exact and Natural Sciences, University of Buenos
Aires, Argentina. The covered subjects change every year, and their
main purpose is to offer graduate students and young researchers
from the region the opportunity to learn the last developments in a
given field from world-recognized experts.
The topic chosen for the 2012 edition is “APPLIED AND ENVIRONMENTAL
GEOPHYSICS”. The main focus will be the Analysis and Interpretation
of Geophysical Data, including Forward and Inverse Modeling, applied
to Near Surface and Reservoir Geophysics. Different techniques will
be addressed (e.g., electromagnetic, seismic, ground penetrating
radar) and applications to different environmental and energy topics
as well as different interdisciplinary approaches will be addressed,
in order to illustrate the state-of-the-art and recent trends in the
area.
These applications will be especially oriented to Hydrogeology,
Petroleum, Geomorphology and Environment (characterization and
monitoring of contaminated sites, evaluation of groundwater,
contamination, estimation of risks from natural hazards,
archaeo-geophysics).
The School will consist of a series of lectures and a Workshop,
where time will be available for short seminars and for the
discussion of posters presented by attendants working in related
fields. The official language of the School is English.
The organizing committee plans to provide financial support for a
number of participants from Latin American countries.
