style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt">Resumen.</SPAN></B><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt"> Los
<SPAN style="mso-bidi-font-weight: bold">fenómenos de membranas</SPAN> ocuparon
un papel central desde el comienzo de la fisiología y la química física. En la
segunda mitad del siglo XIX las investigaciones de <SPAN
style="mso-bidi-font-weight: bold">Pfeffer W. (1877), Van´t Hoff J.H. (1887),
Nernst W. (1888), Ostwald, W. (1890) y Planck M. (1890) </SPAN>definieron los
conceptos fundamentales. Aunque claramente diferenciadas, las <SPAN
style="mso-bidi-font-weight: bold">membranas biológicas</SPAN> (flexibles o
semirígidas y fluídas) y las <SPAN
style="mso-bidi-font-weight: bold">membranas</SPAN> <SPAN
style="mso-bidi-font-weight: bold">sintéticas</SPAN> (rígidas o soportadas y
densas) comparten <SPAN style="mso-bidi-font-style: italic">conceptos,
características y fenómenos comunes como osmosis, permeación, difusión,
selectividad, reflexión, sorción, conductividad eléctrica, potencial de membrana
y muchos otros. </SPAN>En sistemas <SPAN style="mso-bidi-font-style: italic">con
membranas semipermeables</SPAN> que separan fases del mismo estado de agregación
(líquido o gaseoso) las fuerzas y los flujos se fijan desde el exterior y <SPAN
style="mso-bidi-font-style: italic">solo</SPAN> los coeficientes de
proporcionalidad entre flujos y fuerzas son <SPAN
style="mso-bidi-font-style: italic">característicos de la membrana</SPAN>. Las
diferencias de temperatura, presión, potencial eléctrico y composición generan
flujos de calor, volumen, corriente eléctrica y sustancias, que pueden ser <SPAN
style="mso-bidi-font-style: italic">independientes o acoplarse entre sí.
</SPAN>Una <SPAN style="mso-bidi-font-style: italic">sistemática</SPAN> correcta
para tratar estos sistemas complejos recién se obtuvo con la formulación de la
<SPAN style="mso-bidi-font-weight: bold">termodinámica de los procesos
irreversibles</SPAN> (<SPAN style="mso-bidi-font-weight: bold">L. Onsager
1932</SPAN>), aplicada por primera vez a <SPAN
style="mso-bidi-font-style: italic">membranas</SPAN> por <SPAN
style="mso-bidi-font-weight: bold">Staverman </SPAN>en <SPAN
style="mso-bidi-font-weight: bold">1952</SPAN>. En la exposición se dan ejemplos
de transporte a través de membranas mediante el <SPAN
style="mso-bidi-font-style: italic">planteo fenomenológico-termodinámico</SPAN>
de sistemas <SPAN style="mso-bidi-font-style: italic">relativamente
simples.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></SPAN></FONT></P>

Timmermann</SPAN></B><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt"> es Licenciado en Química y
Doctor en Química, orientación Química Física, Facultad de Ciencias Exactas y
Naturales (FCEyN), UBA. Se perfeccionó en <I
style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal">Termodinámica de los Procesos
Irreversibles</I> en Alemania, Institut für Physikalische Chemie, Technische
Universität Aachen. Desde 1959 enseñó en la FCEyN, UBA, donde alcanzó el grado
de profesor asociado DE para Química Física y Termodinámica Química por concurso
(1982). En 1996 fue designado por concurso profesor titular DE para
Termodinámica Química en la Facultad de Ingeniería (FI), UBA, donde actuó hasta
2007. Tuvo una extensa actuación en <st1:PersonName ProductID="la Carrera"
w:st="on">la Carrera</st1:PersonName> del Investigador de la CIC, Provincia de
Buenos Aires y en el CONICET (con contratos por su nacionalidad germana). En
1989-1992 fue miembro de <st1:PersonName ProductID="la Comisi�n Asesora"
w:st="on">la Comisión Asesora</st1:PersonName> de Química del CONICET. Dirigió,
o participó en, numerosos proyectos de investigación de <st1:PersonName
ProductID="la UBA" w:st="on">la UBA</st1:PersonName> y del CONICET en
termodinámica de procesos irreversibles y fenómenos de transporte en sistemas
multicomponentes. Fue investigador del Programa Académico ALFA (Union Europea)
de "<I style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal">Membranas Selectivas</I>". Es autor
de numerosas de publicaciones científicas en revistas y congresos
internacionales. Las investigaciones del Dr. Timmermann han sido objeto de
numerosas citas en la literatura internacional de la especialidad. Es miembro de
varias Sociedades Cientificas, como <st1:PersonName
ProductID="la Deutsche Bunsengesellschaft" w:st="on">la <I
style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal">Deutsche
Bunsengesellschaft</I></st1:PersonName><I style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal">

w:st="on">la <I style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal">Asociación
Argentina</I></st1:PersonName><I style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal"> de
Investigación Físico-Química</I> (AAIFQ) de la que es miembro fundador. Es
miembro titular del Instituto de Investigación y Desarrollo de esta Academia y
está a cargo de la sección de Química Física que proyecta su jornada inaugural
