La paleobiogeografía es una disciplina compleja que recibe información de la
biología y las ciencias de <st1:PersonName w:st="on"
ProductID="la Tierra. Es">la Tierra. Es</st1:PersonName> conceptualmente
equivalente a la neobiogeografía pero sus métodos son diferentes porque está
limitada por el carácter incompleto del registro paleontológico. Sin embargo
posee la ventaja de tener acceso directo a la dimensión tiempo. Los moluscos
bentónicos mesozoicos y entre ellos especialmente los bivalvos, poseen un gran
potencial para los análisis paleobiogeográficos debido a su buena preservación,
gran abundancia, alta diversidad y amplia posibilidad de dispersión en el
estadio larval. Examinando la distribución de estos organismos, se pueden
reconocer gradientes latitudinales y patrones a nivel regional y global, lo que
lleva a la caracterización de unidades paleobiogeográficas o <I
style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal">biocoremas</I> de diverso rango. Avanzando
hacia una paleobiogeografía causal, se puede especular sobre el origen de
algunos patrones especiales, como la bipolaridad. Se puede seguir también la
posible evolución histórica de los biocoremas reconocidos durante el Jurásico y
discutir su relación con los paleoclimas. Por último, en lo que concierne a la
paleobiogeografía aplicada, algunos resultados han sido utilizados para discutir
la evolución de las masas continentales y proponer la existencia de corredores
marinos.</SPAN></DIV>

especializada en Paleontología de Invertebrados. Sus investigaciones sobre
moluscos mesozoicos han sido publicadas en prestigiosos medios del exterior y
