<?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"
/><st1:PersonName w:st="on" ProductID="la Luna">la Luna</st1:PersonName>
visibles a simple vista han siempre provocado la admiración de los seres
humanos. Ya Lucrecio en el siglo I antes de nuestra era dedica un tratado al
asunto, llegando a una conclusión muy cercana a la aceptada hoy. En el Canto II
del “<I style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal">Paraíso</I>” de Dante Alighieri,
Beatriz da una explicación de la existencia de manchas sobre la superficie de la
Luna acorde con la mística cristiana. En su demostración, que refuta una teoría
de Averroes, presenta un experimento que muestra a Dante familiarizado con las
teorías de la luz de la tardía Edad Media. Tres siglos antes Ibn al-Hayham, cuya
influencia sobre el desarrollo de la óptica europea fue fundamental, había
dedicado un tratado al problema analizando diferentes hipótesis y presentando
una variada gama de alternativas. Posteriormente Leonardo da Vinci formularía la
hipótesis de que <st1:PersonName w:st="on" ProductID="la Luna">la
Luna</st1:PersonName> está cubierta por agua salvo justamente en aquellas zonas
donde se observan las manchas. Esta teoría sería retomada un siglo después por
Kepler, quien sólo la abandonaría tras conocer en 1610 las investigaciones
llevadas a cabo por Galileo con el telescopio. Es justamente Galileo, fuerte de
sus observaciones, quien daría punto final a la controversia sobre las manchas
lunares en el <I style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal">Siderius Nuncius</I> y en
la primera jornada de los <I style="mso-bidi-font-style: normal">Diálogos sobre
los Máximos Sistemas</I>. En esta presentación se brinda un estudio comparativo
de las teorías de los autores mencionados.<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>
