statistical downscaling is an easy-to-use, computationally cheap and powerful
method to compute daily variability of surface variables (e.g. precipitation,
temperature) from large-scale atmospheric conditions. In the framework of the
European CLARIS Project, we developed a statistical downscaling method based on
weather pattern classification (D’Onofrio et al., 2008). The method has been
calibrated for a large set of stations in Argentina and demonstrated to be
skilful not only to reproduce the daily variability but also extreme event
conditions (Menendez et al., 2008). The method has been formatted in a Matlab
Toolbox thanks to the support of the 2008 IRD/Spirales
Programme.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></P>
