face="Times New Roman">La familia de cianobacterias Stigonemataceae produce más
de 60 compuestos indólicos, estructuralmente complejos y relacionados
biogenéticamente (alcaloides de las familias de la ambiguina, welwitindolinona,
fischerindol y hapalindol).<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>

face="Times New Roman">Los compuestos aislados de esta fuente presentan un
amplio espectro de bioactividad, entre las que se incluyen antifúngica,
antibacteriana y anticancerígena. Algunos, incluso, presentan potencias
comparables con las de sustancias usadas clínicamente (estreptomicina,
puramicina o anfotericina). Sin embargo, el estudio intensivo de sus propiedades
medicinales se ve obstaculizado por el hecho de que las cianobacterias producen
mezclas complejas de pequeñas cantidades de estos alcaloides ( desde 0,00671%
para el Hapalindol U hasta 0,0213% para el fischerindol I) y que la obtención de
muestras puras sólo es posible mediante complejas y laboriosas separaciones
cromatográficas. Este panorama hace que el descubrimiento de síntesis eficientes
de estos y otros productos naturales se haya convertido en uno de los
principales objetivos actuales de la síntesis
total.<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>
