will open a new era in high<BR>energy physics, as it will provide us with a
unique chance to understand<BR>the mass generation mechanism and investigate
possible solutions of the<BR>open issues in the Standard Model of the
electroweak interactions.<BR>In order to claim a discovery, however, it will be
essential to<BR>have reliable Monte Carlo generators describing new-physics
signals as<BR>well as backgrounds.<BR>The talk will review the physics of
multi-purpose event generators,<BR>such as HERWIG or PYTHIA, which simulate
parton showers in the<BR>soft or collinear approximation of QCD and are provided
with matrix-element<BR>corrections to describe hard and large-angle
radiation.<BR>More recent tools, such as <A href="mailto:MC@NLO">MC@NLO</A> and
matrix-element generators, will<BR>be discussed, and their predictions will be
compared with data on<BR>jet events at the Tevatron
accelerator.<BR></FONT></SPAN></FONT></FONT></FONT></SPAN></SPAN></FONT></FONT></SPAN></SPAN></SPAN></O:P></SPAN></DIV>
