functional dendritic supermolecules"<br><br>

Abstract:<br>
Growing attention is currently devoted to large dendritic structures for
applications in nanotechnology and materials science. In this respect,
the molecular organization of such compounds appears to be an important
issue. Two approaches to produce and to control such a nanoscopic
organization will be considered. A first approach is to generate
liquid-crystalline phases of different symmetry where the molecular
dendrimer shape and the intermolecular van der Waals interactions play an
important role. A second approach is to obtain structurally ordered
dendrimer assemblies through the preparation of Langmuir films at the
air-water interface, provided that a proper molecular design has been
considered to induce the necessary hydrophobic and hydrophilic
parts.<br><br>
