Observatorio Pierre Auger, diseñado para el estudio de los rayos cósmicos de
energías<BR>ultra elevadas (mayores que 1019 eV), se encuentra en la última
etapa de construcción y<BR>adquiriendo datos desde principios del 2004. El mismo
está formado por un arreglo de<BR>1600 detectores de efecto Cherenkov en agua,
que cubren una superfície de 3000 km2, y 24<BR>telescópios de fluorescencia. La
implementación de estas dos técnicas complementarias dan<BR>al Observatorio
Auger una característica única jamás utilizada anteriormente. En esta
charla<BR>se discutirá un poco la historia de la física de los rayos cósmicos,
desde su descubrimiento<BR>hasta los primeros resultados obtenidos por el
Observatorio Auger. <BR></P>
