this talk we will present the work that is being developed
in<BR>our group concerning the study of the blood cycle of malaria. We
first discuss<BR>the worldwide situation and the basic concepts necessary to
understand the<BR>malaria cycle involving mosquito and human beings. Then we
introduce the basic<BR>concepts about cellular automata, a mathematical
tool that will be used to model<BR>the blood cycle (or erythrocytic cycle). We
validate the model by comparing the<BR>parasitemia time series obtained from our
model with the one of malaria<BR>patients extracted from the data
collected from 330 patients. We also discuss<BR>the classification we have
performed concerning similarities and<BR>dissimilarities among the patients time
series ,using a non supervised<BR>clustering technique that is based on the
first-order transitions of a<BR>ferromagnetic Potts model (Superparamagnetic
