está íntimamente ligada a la quiralidad y la naturaleza a través de sus
diferentes ciclos de vida nos provee de un importante volumen de biomasa, que es
nuestra principal fuente de quiralidad. Los hidratos de carbono constituyen
aproximadamente dos tercios de los recursos renovables y poseen un gran
potencial de utilización como materia prima en la síntesis de productos
natutales y no naturales requeridos por la industria farmacéutica, agroquímica y
de esencias. Uno de nuestros objetivos es la síntesis enantioespecífica de una
familia de compuestos denominados pentalenolactonas a partir de glucosa. La
pentalenolactona demostró ser un potente inhibidor de la
gliceraldheido-3-fosfato deshidrogenasa en tripanosomas y por consiguiente el
estudio de la relación estructura-actividad biológica podría conducir al diseño
de nuevos agentes terapéuticos. El desarrollo de una secuencia sintética para la
construcción del esqueleto carbonado de este sesquiterpeno cíclico angularmente
fusionado muy compacto y funcionalizado nos condujo por caminos desconocidos
hacia destinos impensados pero gratificantes<SPAN lang=ES-TRAD
