High-energy gamma-ray astrophysics, besides providing an exciting new
astronomical picture of the Universe through the many new objects
discovered in the recent years, is a powerful tool for fundamental
physics and for astrophysics.The detection of gamma rays by the
satellites Fermi/GLAST, AGILE and by the imaging Cherenkov detectors
MAGIC, HESS and VERITAS opened a new window on acceleration mechanisms
and on high energy phenomena, as well as on the propagation of photons
through cosmological distances. The status of current and future
detectors of very high energy photons is reviewed in this seminar, in
particular related to the status of the MAGIC observatory at La Palma
and to the construction of the new-generation detector, the Cherenkov
Telescope Array.
