Gamma-ray astrophysics from space has been recently boosted by the space
missions AGILE and FERMI. We will briefly review the main results for both
Galactic and extragalactic sources, and focus on some recent
breakthroughs. The surprising discovery of gamma-ray flares from the Crab
Nebula will be discussed with the very relevant implications for particle
acceleration models. The mystery of the origin of hadronic cosmic-rays has
been clarified by the recent discovery of neutral pion emission from
several Supernova Remnants (SNRs). However new challenging observations of
SNRs require more work to understand the overall properties of cosmic-rays
up to the knee.
