RESUMEN:
 I will explain how classical thermodynamics can be understood in terms or
the space-time rescaling of the evolution of the conserved quantities of
the microscopic dynamics. Since Carnot cycles are the central object in
constructing thermodynamics, we need to understand isothermal and adiabatic
transformations from the microscopic point of view. I will review the
actual status of this mathematical program, in a particular one dimensional
model: a chain of oscillators of the Fermi-Pasta-Uhlam type.
