Dear colleague,
We are pleased to announce that the 27th International
Conference on Low Temperature Physics (LT27) will take place in Buenos
Aires, Argentina, during August 6-13, 2014.
The Low Temperature Physics Conference is an international
event held every three years, under the auspices of the IUPAP through
its Commission C5 on Low Temperature Physics. Following the mandate of
the Commission, the Low Temperature Conferences aim at the exchange
of information and views among the members of the international
scientific community in the general field of Low Temperature Physics,
promoting the excellence of invited and contributed presentations.
It is a tradition that LT offers updates on the various topics,
provided by the highest representatives of every field, as well as
oral and poster contributions in the different areas.
The 27th LT Conference is hosted by the Department of Physics
of the University of Buenos Aires and the Institute of Physics of Buenos
Aires, that together constitute an important research centre in
Argentina and Latin America. This is the first Conference of the
series that takes place in South America; the city of Buenos Aires
as a cultural and touristical metropolis, with its stylish European
architecture and culture, belle époque atmosphere of café society,
literature, tango saloons, theatres and fine dining, introduces
special attraction. Also, Argentina has an extensive list of pre and
post conference tour options, including Ushuaia and Patagonia in the
South, the Andes region in the West, tropical rainforest and wildlife
in the spectacular Iguazú falls in the North East, and the charm of
country life in ''estancias'' close to Buenos Aires city.
The Conference will take place in the Sheraton-Buenos Aires
Hotel and Convention Center, a very convenient facility for a large
number of participants, with confortable conference and meeting rooms
equipped with high technology. The Hotel and Convention Center is
located in the heart of downtown Buenos Aires, within walking distance
from numerous hotels covering an broad range of prices, with abundant and
assorted restaurants and cafés, easy access to many touristic roads
inside and outside the city and to cultural attractions and
entertainement, as well as shopping areas. The neighborhood is
especially adequate for accompanying persons in view of the wide
offer of sightseeing tours and walks.
According to the well established tradition this Conference
will run from Wednesday to Wednesday. On Wednesday, August 6, 2014, a
reception will take place for all participants and accompanying persons.
The Conference will formally start on Thursday, August 7, where the London
Memorial Prize, the Simon Memorial Prize and the IUPAP Young Scientist
Prize in Low Temperature Physics will be presented, and on Sunday 10 a
survey of excursions will be offered, including visits to important
touristic sites within the city and surroundings. A dinner is planned
for Monday 11 and the Conference will be closed at noon on Wednesday 13.
Scientific Program:
As in previous Conferences, the daily schedule includes plenary and
half-plenary talks in the morning, five parallel sessions during late
morning and early afternoon, and poster sessions in the late
afternoon. The parallel sessions will correspond to the following
topical areas:
1) Quantum fluids and solids
2) Superconductivity
3) Cryogenic techniques and applications
