            Quantum Information Processing with Atomic and Photonic Qubits
  using Rydberg Blockade[1]

            Laboratoire Charles Fabry, Institute d'Optique, CNRS, France
           
     
  Interactions between Rydberg atoms, known as "Rydberg blockade", have
been
  recognized as a very efficient tool for manipulating atomic or photonic
  qubits. We will present several recent results  in this field, related to
  either the entanglement of two  atomic qubits, or to the possible
  realization of non-linear optical effects that are large enough to induce
  photon-photon interactions. Such effects would be a signicant step
forward
  for quantum information processing and communications, and could enable
  the
  implementation of a two-photon phase gate.
