RESUMENES
Stefan Grosskinsky.
Growth phenomena with spatial competition can lead to interesting
stochastic pattern formation and have applications in biology with recent
experimental results on microbial species. We show how scale-invariance
properties of a coarse-grained, heuristic description of species boundaries
leads to a general relation between growth in expanding and fixed domains.
For the common case of radial expansion this can be seen as an extension of
the standard harmonic map on the complement of the unit disk. In a second
part we will discuss connections to the TASEP and generalized competition
interfaces for simplified lattice-based models.
This is joint work with Adnan Ali and Claudia Cioli.
Yuri Suhov
Quantum Mechanics is a peculiar theory where particles follow unusual
rules. In an attempt to clarify various aspects of Quantum Mechanics,
Feynman introduced the so-called Feynman integral -- a concept that had an
enormous impact on theoretical physics but still awaits its rigorous
treatment. Later, Kac proposed what is nowadays called the Feynman--Kac
(FK) formula and indicated its connection with Probability Theory. I will
report on new results from Quantum Statistical Mechanics based on an
intensive use of the FK formula and discuss some conjectures and open
questions.
No preliminary knowledge from Quantum Mechanics will be assumed.
