Thin piezoelectric films and surface treatments on fabrics

In the first half of this talk I will describe the research I carry out on
piezoelectric �lms and fabric surface treatments. In the first part I
will discuss the optical properties of SrTiO3, BaTiO3, CaCu3Ti4O12
grown using a sol-gel technique. These will include changes in the
transmittance spectra, the optical energy band gap, the refractive index
and the capacitance changes induced by gamma irradiation. As examples of
sensing devices I will show a capacitor using BaTiO3 films deposited on
flexible borosilicate glass for a strain gauge and a similar device
working as a gas sensor for the ethanol-sensing. In the second half of
this talk,I will discuss how we can turn silk and cotton fabrics to be
hydrophobic using SF6 plasma, and poly(ethyleneterephthalate) (PET) fabric
to be hydrophilic using N2, O2 and Ar plasmas.
