Abstract
Comets have been observed and recoognized for millenia, but their
membership of the solar system was only recognized some 300 years ago.
Their physical nature took even longer to be understood, the dirty snow
ball model giving a broad brush agreement with observations.
However as more data comes in, more questions also arise and we still do
not know the details of the interior of the nucleus. The Rosetta mission
may at last throw some light onto this subject.
