Subject: Postdoc opening at Illinois in Laser Spectroscopy
Dear Fellow Molecular Dynamicists,
My current postdoc (Susanna Widicus Weaver) will be leaving soon for a
faculty position at Emory, so I am in the process of searching for a new
postdoc to work with the molecular ion beam spectrometer we are
constructing here at Illinois. If you have (or know of) any graduate
students who are graduating soon and are interested in a postdoc, I
would greatly appreciate it if you could pass along the attached
detailed description of the position.
Best wishes,
Ben

Postdoctoral Researcher ? Laser Spectroscopy
McCall Group, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research position in the
McCall group at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Our
group is developing a new technique called SCRIBES (Sensitive, Cooled,
Resolved Ion BEam Spectroscopy) which combines a supersonic jet plasma
source, a fast ion beam, highly sensitive laser absorption spectroscopy,
and mass spectrometry. This system will enable high-resolution
spectroscopy of many molecular ions, including complex carbocations,
that are relevant to organic chemistry, combustion chemistry, and
astrochemistry. More information about our group is available at
http://bjm.scs.uiuc.edu
The successful candidate will actively participate in the commissioning
of the SCRIBES instrument, implement high sensitivity techniques such as
high repetition-rate cavity ringdown spectroscopy and cavity-enhanced
heterodyne spectroscopy, obtain and analyze spectra of molecular ions of
interest, and serve as a mentor to both graduate and undergraduate
students. [The group currently consists of one postdoc, seven graduate
students, and four undergraduates.] Opportunities for participating in
complementary astronomical observations will also be available.
Postdoctoral positions at UIUC are nominally for a one year period, but
this position will be renewable for up to a total of three years, given
satisfactory progress. Applicants should register at the website
http://www.scs.uiuc.edu/scs_applicants and upload a curriculum vitae
(including a list of publications) and a letter of application which
should contain a description of research experience, research interests
in our group, and future plans. Applicants should also arrange for at
least three letters of recommendation to be submitted through the online
application system. For full consideration, applications must be
complete by June 1. Start date is negotiable.
