Banach space-valued harmonic analysis - what and why?

Several results in the classical harmonic analysis of real and complex
functions have been extended to the case of functions which take their
values in an infinite-dimensional Banach space. In this talk I discuss
some concepts in this area, and try to give an idea of why such a
theory can even lead to a better understanding of the original
scalar-valued results.
