Title:
   Algebraic Geometry and the perfect elementary analysis problem

Abstract:
   The "perfect" analysis problem asks the students to show he has
   learned the main theorems and techniques from analysis, and will
   not require that he waste time with difficult and irrelevant
   algebraic tasks. When the analysis topic is the relationship
   between the derivatives of a function and the graph of that function,
   it can be difficult to avoid those algebraic techniques. I will
   show that a "perfect" example may be found using tools from
   algebraic geometry and number theory.
